I’m flying to Oakland on Saturday to attend the Sunday morning wedding of Serena and Ed. Serena is a friend from college. I’m flying home Monday. I spent a good chunk of the weekend shopping in preparation for the trip.
I bought a skirt, top and shoes on Saturday evening. I’m happy with the outfit, but not with the time it took to find something appropriate. I wanted a simple dress. I have nothing fit for a wedding in my closet. I’ve lost 58 pounds this year and have toned up a lot with yoga. I have some choices now; I don’t have to just accept the first thing I find that fits. This made it surprisingly hard to find something. I don’t want to hide in a flowing tent of fabric anymore but a clingy, skimpy outfit isn’t going to cut in on my still generous figure.
I found the winning outfit in the fourth of the five options for decent clothes. I was starting to panic that I would end up at Dress Barn for Woman. The trends this fall tend towards Mrs. Roper or Love Boat extra.
I also bought a small suitcase with handle and wheels. I intended to carry my duffle bag on the plane, but the tightened security will force me to check my bag, leading me to buy some grown-up luggage. It is sized for carry on in hopes that this no liquids rule will eventually be repealed. It was hard to find a bag without a dozen outer pockets. I don’t need specialized compartments, just a protected space.
Since I bought it at Marshals I didn’t have a selection of colors. My black bag will join the multitudes on the carousel. I’ll have to find a distinctive ribbon for the handles. One of my mom’s bags has one of my old hair ribbons on it, I’ve never seen another like it.
If you’ve read this far you have great tolerance for the mundane. Today that’s all I’ve got. No drama, no angst, no giddiness. This is a good place to be, but it doesn’t give me much to talk about.
I stumbled upon this site as I was in the process of doing some online research. Actually the picture stopped me cold as I wondered if I was back in Oz.
