Last day before a four-day weekend! Oh joy! I don't care if it does rain all weekend, I'm going to enjoy it. So let's get right to the point. Shuffle and play:
- Ain't Misbehaven - Count Basie (The Best of Big Bands)
- Fast Car - Tracy Chapman (Tracy Chapman)
- Savoy Shuffle - Beatles (White Album)
- Texas On a Saturday Night - Mel Tillis and Willie Nelson (Revolutions of Time)
- It's A Shame - The Spinners (Radio Soul)
- Committed - Pete Yorn (Day I Forgot)
- How - The Cranberries (Everybody Else is Doing It, So Why Can't We)
- We're Just Friends - Wilco (Summer Teeth)
- Dancer In A Daydream - Ace of Base (The Sign)
- Alice's Restaurant Massacree - Alro Guthrie (Alice's Restaurant)
Fav tune - Fast Car. There are other Tracy Chapman songs I like better, but this one still hits me in the gut when I hear it. I just perk up with interest and affection for this song.
Fav album - Alice's Restaurant. Clocking in at 18 minutes, 37 seconds I don't hear this song very often. I have it on vinyl. Love this record. Not only does it have Alice's Restaurant, it has Ring-Around-A-Rosy Rag, Now and Then, and The Motorcycle Song. If you haven't heard these songs your music education is sadly deficient. I also love the movie they made based on this epic anti-draft song. It is very hard to work productively on a test script while laughing along with this story.
General - Bonus Song #11 - Souvenir - OMD (Architecture and Morality) - I love this song. It makes me ache and dwell in this song. The moment it starts I know I'm going to hit repeat at least one time. I listened to this song and the album obsessively in high school and into college. It was originally tied to a boy I was obsessed with, but now stands on it's own. Still linked in my soul to teen angst and longing, now heavily tinged with nostalgia. I was an ass then, and remain one today.
Happy Fourth to everyone!
