Chicken Butt

Documenting my evolution into a crazy cat-less spinster.

Not Friday yet post

This is my new bike helmet. It's white. The funky colors are an effect on Photo Booth, a fun little app on my mac that used the built in camera.

New helmet

It's Thursday, but it feels like Friday because I'm taking tomorrow off. I'm going to an OA conference this weekend in Milwaukee and it starts tomorrow. It's only a two hour drive without traffic. We'll leave after lunch so it should be a low stress drive.

I've only loaded about 15 albums onto my new Nano, most of them pretty new (to me). I only have 189 songs on it right now. Hopefully I'll take the time to get my PC up and running again soon so I can get my purchased music transfered over. I've got much of it backed up, but I know I bought some in early winter. I don't mind reburning songs from CD, but it would be a lot quicker to just copy from the pc. I wonder if the files are different at all when burned using iTunes for Windows or iTunes on mac.

Here are the first 5 songs on my nano shuffle this afternoon:

  1. Hummingbird - Wilco (A Ghost is Born)
  2. Dinner At Eight - Rufus Wainwright (Want One) - whenever a rufus tune shows up in shuffle mode it makes me want to go listen to more, that's how this became an early import to new nano
  3. The Hurting Time - Annie Lennox (Bare) - one of my favorite albums ever.
  4. Like a Star - Corinne Bailey Rae (Corinne Bailey Rae) - I resisted buying this CD. I seem to only really like the singles I've heard on the radio (including this one). Hope multiple listens will change this.
  5. Candy Floss - Wilco (Summerteeth) the only artists I've imported more than one album and both show up.

I don't have much else. I think I'm going to end up naming my MacBook Pro. How queer am I?  (I mean that in the old politically incorrect schoolyard lingo. I mean no disrespect. I just could not come up with an alternative word that means what I mean.) Maybe by writing about it before I do it, I'll not do it. I don't have any names in mind. I just got that impulse to name it. It occurred to me when it occurred to me that my bike bike needs a name. This feels right. Again, no specifics. Just the thought that this object must be named.

I've been meaning to post about the pinata I made for BugBoy's birthday party, but haven't made time. Here is a picture of the beheading:

I enjoy being a girl

Now I remember why I’m not a sports fan. It’s heart-breaking. I didn’t see the good bits. I didn’t get home from my meeting until the second quarter. So I missed the opening touchdown, but got to watch the Colts score again and again. I stopped watching at half-time and then watched most of the fourth quarter. I know the basics of the game and hardly ever watch, but even I could see the Colts were tight in both offense and defense while the Bears couldn’t pull it together. I imagine my brother-in-law walked away from the TV before the game ended. I haven’t talked to sis yet, but I’ve seen him turn off the game in disgust before.

The commercials I saw were lame even for regular spots. I watched Flower Drum Song during half-time, third quarter and post game. I kept clicking back to catch Criminal Minds, but finally set my VCR to catch it. I know all the songs from Flower Drum Song by heart. I listened to my mom’s record of the film soundtrack for years. It was nice to finally see the story behind it. It was also nice to see the Asian characters played by Asian actors, not at all common in 1961. I knew some of the actors were Japanese not Chinese, but it’s still better than Yul Brynner or Katherine Hepburn.

During the dance number in Love Look Away the dancer performed a series of athletic gymnastic stunts instead of a fluid dance. I find this boring and it reminded me of the extended ballets in Gene Kelly movies. It turns out Gene Kelly was the choreographer. I once heard that the difference between Kelly and Astaire was the Kelly made dancing look difficult and Astaire made it look effortless. I much prefer effortless dancing. I know it’s difficult, I don’t need to see the effort involved. I love musicals, but I am bored by most ballads and ballet numbers.

I would like to get Flower Drum Song on CD. I’d forgotten all about Don’t Marry Me. What a fun song. It was weird to see Det. Sgt. Nick Yemana singing it though.

I'll stick with Netflixing; it is much more satisfying than being a Bears fan.

Air Show

Straight upStuntsKitesImageremoved_1Mr. P's MemorialMr. P's Plaque

Went to my first air show today. Pretty awesome. THe kids loved it. My camera doesn't do it justice, but they turned out okay. I had to use the view finder because the LCD screen was imposible to see it was so bright out. I'm sunburnt and we were only there an hour.

I'm still playing around with all my options for posting photos. Not sure which format I prefer. I've seen this way and liked it.

I've got other photo sets on flickr. If I know you and you'd like to see Monkey's baptism or the Harry Potter night pics with ksl and the gang, email me and I'll invite you to be a contact.
